Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment

Cosmelan is a patented depigmentation treatment. It is designed to reduce melanin patches on the skin known as either Melasma or Chloasma. These dark patches are formed when the production of melanin in the body increases. An increase of melanin in the body can be due to a range of things such as hormonal changes, sun exposure, nicotine exposure or other genetic factors. The treatment action in Cosmelan is based on the inhibition of tyrosinane, an enzyme that is key in the melanin formation process.

The Cosmelan depigmentation treatment consists of two easy stages. The first stage is administered in our office by a licensed professional, and consists of the Cosmelan I product, similar to a mud mask, being applied to your face. The amount and the length of time that the treatment product stays on the face will depend on your skin type and the severity of the problem. The stage two process involves administering the Cosmelan II cream each evening for about six months, and this can be done at home.

We recommend the Cosmelan treatment for those patients with a darker
complexion when a laser treatment may not be appropriate or for those patients suffering from melasma.
