While it’s true, lasers are cutting-edge technology and are better now than ever before, believe it or not - laser therapy has been used in medicine for more than 30 years. there are many different types of lasers and many different types of laser therapies. two of the most well known and popular are laser hair removal and laser vein removal.

Laser Hair Removal

How does it work? A small beam of light (the laser) heats up the root of the hair shaft. Because heat and light are attracted to pigment, the best results occur on darker hair - black, brown and even dark reds. Once the root is affected by the heat, the result is a slower, weaker hair growth.
After multiple treatments, the hair gets weaker and weaker, eventually dying off and resulting in no more growth. Prior to a laser hair removal treatment, you will be asked to shave the area being treated. The actual treatment process is very simple – you won’t experience any pain, since the laser is only heating the hair, while your skin stays cool. Treatments can take anywhere from 10 minutes for a small are  up to an hour for a large area. You can see anywhere from 70-90% permanent hair loss from a series of treatments over six to 12 weeks. That means you might not ever have to buy a razor again!

Laser Vein Removal

Laser vein treatment is similar, in that it uses heat and light to target the color of blood in the superficial veins. The treatment has become the gold standard and most efficient form of therapy for small, superficial spider veins on the legs and face. These small veins – sometimes blue, purple, red or pink – are very close to the surface of the skin and are not essential to your body’s circulation. Therefore, they are safe to treat.

There is little preparation prior to a laser vein treatment and the process itself can take 15-20 minutes with minimal pain. Your skin will be kept cool while the heat from the laser is targeting the color of the blood in the veins. The blood will start to clot and the tissue holding the blood will deteriorate, eventually becoming absorbed by your body. You can typically expect the veins to fully diminish in 3-6 treatments. Treatments can be spaced anywhere from 3-6 weeks apart, with very minimal downtime after each session.

Did You Know?

Varicose veins affect half of people 50 years and older — both male and female.

Most varicose veins appear in the legs due to the pressure of body weight, gravity and task of carrying blood from the bottom of the body up to the heart.
